Infant & Junior School

The main entry points for BGS Infants and Juniors are Reception, Year 3 and Year 5. Pupils usually join in September, at the start of the academic year.

Places are sometimes available in other year-groups or during the school year. Please contact Catherine Ball on 0117 933 9631 or e-mail admissions@bgs.bristol.sch.uk for up-to-date information on the availability of places.

Reception places are allocated on the basis of performance during an informal assessment session, which usually take about an hour and a half, supported by a report from your child’s current early learning setting (if applicable).

For entry to Reception in September 2018, assessments will be held in January 2018. Further details will be published in due course but you can register your interest by contacting Catherine Ball on 0117 933 9631.

Offers of places in BGS Juniors are made on the basis of performance in entrance assessments, supported by a report from your child’s current school.

For Year 3 entry, children are invited to an Experience morning, where they will enjoy a series of tasks and activities, including verbal reasoning, mathematics and literacy. Full details of the assessment process will be sent to you once you've applied.

For Years 4–6 the assessment consists of E
nglish, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The tests will be explained to your child, with examples given and opportunities to ask for help, before they will be expected to work alone.

For entry to BGS Juniors in September 2018, assessments will be held in November 2017 and January 2018 (your child will only need to attend one session of assessment). Please note offers will be made following the first assessment session, which may impact on the availability of places for subsequent test dates.

How to apply
If you would like to apply for a place for your child to join BGS Infants and Juniors, please return the application form with the £25 registration fee to the Admissions Office, who will then contact you with details of the next assessment session.
