A*s make the standard grade for GCSE results

The number of students celebrating top marks across all GCSE subjects rose again this year at Bristol Grammar School, with nine students achieving ten or more straight A*s and a total of twenty-one topping at least eight A*s or more. Across the board 68.3% of all results were an A* or A with over a quarter (26%) achieving ten or more A* or A grades.

This year, A*s were the most common grade achieved by BGS students across six core subjects, History, Design Technology and Latin and the three sciences, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. In Maths, sat by all students in Year 11, 73% of all grades were an A* or A.

Headmaster Rod MacKinnon is naturally delighted at the achievements of the year-group for whom, despite their academic success, school life is much more than just academic study. Celebrating with his students, Mr MacKinnon said, “All our students are involved in a rich programme of extra-curricular activities, giving them a breadth as well as depth of education. These are fantastic results from young people with a wide range of interests and commitments; great preparation for the challenges of ‘A’ levels ahead.”

100% of all Bristol Grammar School’s GCSE students secured five GCSE passes between A* to C including English and Maths. Thirty three passed with only A* or A grades in every subject, with 53% with eight or more GSCEs graded A* or A.
