Inspection Report 2009 "Outstanding"

The latest Independent Inspectorate Report for Bristol Grammar School was published in January 2010.  The report recognises the many strengths of the school, with the overall conclusion beginning;

“Bristol Grammar School is a thriving and confident school which makes outstanding provision for pupils’ education. The pastoral care it offers is excellent. This ensures pupils develop as rounded individuals who have an outstanding awareness of spiritual, moral, social and cultural education.”

Commenting on the educational experience provided, the inspectors found that;
 “The school provides an outstanding range of educational opportunities both within and outside the classroom.”
“Pupils’ appetite and enthusiasm for achievement is a testament to the school’s pursuit of its aim to engender a love of learning.” 

The quality of pastoral care at BGS was found to be “outstanding”  as was the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils, reflected in pupils who “seize chances to take responsibility for themselves and for others” and who are “self-assured, friendly and supportive of one another.”

Headmaster, Roderick MacKinnon commented: “I am delighted with our Inspectors report; it celebrates the outstanding qualities of the educational provision at Bristol Grammar School.  The Inspectors emphasise the excellent pastoral care and achievement of our students, drawing attention to the outstanding range of co-curricular and curricular opportunities for all.  I am very proud of this school’s record of care and provision and grateful for the support of parents and the excellent work of staff and students that make all this possible.”

The inspection report for BGS Juniors was also published in January 2010.  The report covers all aspects of school life, with the inspectors noting in their conclusions that:

“The care, guidance and personal development of pupils is outstanding and is underpinned by warm supportive relationships and mutual respect.  These are strong features of the school to which all staff show strong commitment.  All pupils are valued and they respond by demonstrating a thoughtful and responsible approach to other people, the environment and to charitable causes.  Their life at the school is rich and interesting”
