A*s make the standard grade for GCSE results
Bristol Grammar School tops league table
Successful 'A' level results 2011
Inspection Report 2009 "Outstanding"
Successful 'A' level results 2011
2011 has been another successful year for ‘A' level results at BGS, with a 100% pass rate. 53 of this year’s 125 ‘A’ level candidates achieved at least one of the top rating A* grades and overall 90 entries, more than a fifth of Bristol Grammar School’s total of 405 entries, were awarded an A* grade. 73.6% of students achieved one or more A* or A grade, with nearly 40% gaining three or more A*’s or A's. In addition to the above 83.4% of all entries were awarded A*/A/B.
There were some notable successes for language student with all eighteen candidates for 'A' level Russian achieving an A* or an A grade.
Headmaster Rod MacKinnon is delighted with his students’ achievements across a broad range of both academic and creative subjects. He said, “With over a fifth of entries receiving an A* result (22%), we can see that the A* has been a valuable addition to how results are presented, allowing talented students to shine in their best subjects. The planned increase in university tuition fees for 2012 has put a lot of additional stress on students to perform well this year, and there has been concern about errors in exam papers. I am very pleased with what has been achieved with so many students succeeding perhaps beyond their expectations.”
This was also the first year that 'A' level students had the opportunity to enhance their studies with the new Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), an optional qualification which allows students to explore a subject of their choice. Fourteen students explored a diverse range of subjects with eleven being awarded an A* or A, equivalent to half an 'A' level.
