The Arts

From the very first violin lessons in BGS Infants to the inspiring performances achieved in School drama productions, our School Concerts and the vibrancy of our House Plays, Bristol Grammar School has an excellent tradition of promoting participation and involvement in the creative and performing arts.

Outside School, students enjoy a wide range of cultural visits to the theatre, ballet, galleries, and museums.  Inside, the energy and interest of our students sustains a rich and varied programme of dance, drama and musical activity.
With the Great Hall, 145-seater Mackay Theatre, Owen Room  and purpose-built dance facilities, there are spaces for professional performance and amateur productions, including the amphitheatre, the outdoor venue used for our annual Middle School play.

A highlight of the School Year is the Wildlife Photography Competition, where our students, staff and parents are encouraged to put their creativity on display.

The School also has a rich literary tradition, regularly welcoming top poets, authors and television presenters to share their secrets and enthusiasm, inspiring a love of reading and creative writing that spans all ages in the School.
