Capital Projects
The 475th Anniversary Capital Campaign was an enormous success for the School. Raising over £2m, it has enabled significant new benefits:
A wonderful new Sports Pavilion at Failand, already used and loved by all.
The exciting Breakthrough project, remodelling the Great Hall stairs and creating a new access route which has made an extraordinary difference to daily life at BGS.
These two initiatives cost over £3m, the balance of cost being made up from school funds.
Looking forward there are two significant capital projects to consider:
The Performing Arts centre (cost c.£2.5m)
The ‘re-lifing’ of the Library and Sixth Form Centre (cost c.£2.5m)
With difficult times still ahead in the UK economy, the School does not believe it to be credible to launch a major contributions campaign, the like of which previously raised such funds for the Pavilion and Hub projects.
The School intends to try to bring forward these developments in a phased way over a number of years, with some support, we hope, from donations, combined with surpluses generated from our trading account. We therefore view these projects as being ‘medium-horizon’, rather than short-term, ambitions.
