BGS Infants spellbound by author visit
BGS Infants spellbound by author visit
30.05.2012 - Mrs Mamuda reports
Roars of laughter erupted on a sunny Friday morning in late May when award winning author Nicholas Allan visited BGS Infants. Many of his books are bestsellers including the hilarious
The Queen’s Knickers
. Not only an amazing author and illustrator of over 30 books, he also stunned us with his magic (we later discovered he is a member of the Brotherhood of Magicians).
He enchanted the children by demonstrating how he likes to write a book. Empty pages literally came to life right in front of our eyes with a little help from a magical wand! Giggles and laughter ensued as he drew a picture revealing The Queen, a hilarious picture of Prince Charles and some magnificent ears. There was a round of applause as Mr Allan drew the Queen’s soldiers and a brave Alexander went up to attempt his own. He was rewarded by a chocolate coin the magician conjured up; the children were fascinated by his ability to magic chocolate as much as his amazing illustrations!
All listened intently as he read out his book The Queen’s Knickers. The children giggled in delight at the hilarious thought of the Queen having special knickers to suit all occasions – gardening, horse-riding, even some that could turn into a rubber boat if she was aboard a ship! The children were brimming with ideas, enthusiasm; their minds were open to believe anything is possible and it was inspirational to watch.
I was thrilled that he entertained them so well. I was impressed to see the children so animated, eager, engaged, motivated and inspired to create a fantastic piece of work to end the session. I’m sure the effects of this visit will be long lasting.
