Congratulations Emily!
Congratulations Emily!
04.07.2012 - Place in Team GB for London 2012
The summer term at Bristol Grammar School ended on a high note yesterday with the fantastic news that former BGS student Emily Diamond has been selected for the Olympic Games.
Emily was named as a member of the Team GB 4 x 400m relay squad, an achievement which is all the more impressive when you consider this is her first season competing in the 400m (having stepped-up from the 200m). A strong performance at the Olympic trials, where she finished fourth, was enough to secure her a place in the squad alongside Nicola Sanders, Marilyn Okoro and the selected 400m trio of Christine Ohuruogu, Shana Cox and Lee McConnell.
Commenting on her selection 21 year-old Emily said “I still simply cannot believe that I am going to the Olympics, I am so happy. This has got to be the best day of my life and I feel over the moon with the news.”
Emily’s place in the team was revealed to staff at the School by her mum Nicola Diamond, who is Head of Diamond’s House and a biology teacher at the School. The announcement was made at the end-of-term gathering and was a truly wonderful piece of news to start the holidays.
Everyone at BGS sends their whole-hearted congratulations to Emily and we wish her the very best of luck at the Olympics.
