Senior Cricket tour to Holland

13.07.2012 - Howzat!

After a thirteen-hour journey the happy squad of fourteen arrived in Scheveningen; having travelled through heavy rain it was great to arrive and see some blue sky. A quick game of touch Rugby on the beach soon cleared the journey from the team’s bodies and minds and they quickly turned their attention to game one of the tour.

Although there was no bright sunshine, a dry morning got the tour up and running. Charlie Killick wasted no time by batting for all bar three balls of the fifty over game, recording his first century for the BGS First team. The innings was followed by some good work with the ball by Tom Riley who took four wickets. The BGS cricket tour had got off to a winning start.

In game two, against HBS The Hague, the group were slightly surprised to play not only on an Astro strip but also on an Astro outfield – a first for all the players. With some senior players resting it was Dan Tailor who took up the captaincy, leading the side well. Playing against some more senior players, who were clearly used to the surface, the squad found runs hard to come by; the exception being Harry Thompson who was left not out on 62. The bowling attack worked hard but on the fast outfield the home side knocked the runs off with ten overs to spare.

The team are very much looking forward to the challenge of playing their next opponents, the Dutch National U17 side.
