Olympic Flame Festival

25.05.2012 - BGS joins the celebrations

Students from Bristol Grammar School joined over 200 other children from schools across North Somerset on Wednesday to celebrate the Olympic flame’s journey through Bristol. They were taking part in a hockey festival, organised by Firebrands Hockey Club and hosted at Bristol Grammar School’s Failand sports ground.

GB hockey star Susie Gilbert and Torch Bearer Alison Harris opened the proceedings, and all the children got into the Olympic spirit, joining together to form five human Olympic rings! As everyone enjoyed the glorious sunshine, there was the chance for photos with the Olympic torch as well as some hockey to be played. The BGS Year 7 and 8 teams did very well, the Year 7s winning their competition and the Year 8s finishing runners-up. BGS Juniors were also represented, with players from Year 5 and 6 competing in composite teams, made up from pupils from a variety of schools. Congratulations to all the participants who represented BGS so well.
