Sparkling Bright Author visits BGS
Sparkling Bright Author visits BGS
22.06.2012 - Rachel Bright
It was brilliant sunshine indoors on Tuesday 19 June when children’s author, Rachel Bright, treated Reception pupils at Bristol Grammar School to a very special visit. She is not only a writer and illustrator, but also the producer of an award-winning stationary range which has sold over two million cards in just a few years!
She began by inspiring the children with her lovely charming story
MINE!
about siblings who struggle to share their favourite cuddly toy, Funny Bunny. The children instantly fell in love with the adorable Funny Bunny, as well as being very familiar with the problems of sharing. They felt sorry when the poor bunny had his ears pulled off during one final sibling squabble. The children glowed with happiness at the chance to draw their own special bunny. They were dazzled as she revealed how to draw him: needless to say they shimmered with delight at their masterpieces!
Next, there was a sense of excitement as Rachel introduced us to another of her very special friends, Fluffy Love Monster! The children were buzzing with excitement when they had the opportunity to create a new monster themselves. Reception had a fantastic time sharing imaginative ideas, and there were heaps of giggles and joy at their unique creation: Grumpy Mr Monster Hero. Rachel confessed that it was the best monster she had ever helped to create, since it had so many hands and feet!
The session concluded with a chance to create our own Funny Bunnies and Love Monsters using various artistic materials. The results were brilliant and vibrant. Rachel was certain there were many future authors and illustrators among us. In the meantime, the children were lucky enough to take a special signed copy of a book home with them to enjoy: perfect for sharing!
