Joining our School
Children usually join BGS Infants in Reception when they are aged 4, or BGS Juniors in Years 3 and 4 when they are aged 7 and 8. We also offer an expanded entrance into Year 5 as a stepping stone for children who are thinking about transferring to Bristol Grammar School at the start of their secondary education in Year 7.
Games and puzzles make up the informal assessment morning organised for children joining our Infant school, a relaxed event. For children joining our Junior School in September, we hold entry tests earlier in the year which assess reading, writing and reasoning skills.
All our assessments are designed to find out whether each child is ready to get the most out of our school, which simply means that a child’s early development or learning will be similar to, or exceed, the average that might be expected for their age.
Our main assessment sessions take place in November (for BGS Juniors) and January (BGS Infants and Juniors).
Vacancies do come up in other year groups and other times of year. Please contact Catherine Ball on 0117 933 9631 for up-to-date information.
