Learning Independence

Teaching in BGS Juniors is designed to help our children progress easily from their early infant years towards becoming independent and motivated learners, able to seize whatever opportunities lie ahead as they move on to their next stage of education. Right from Year 3 our children are encouraged to focus on Thinking Skills, helping them to get the most from all their learning opportunities.

Our children enjoy a breadth of education that stretches beyond the full National Curriculum, expanding their ideas and enriching their experiences. Girls and boys in Year 3 are taught by their Form Teacher, largely in the familiar surroundings of their own classroom, but also enjoying some excellent additional resources to help them get to grips with music, art, sport, dance and science. As they progress through the School, more teachers are introduced, with some classes in science, languages and music taught by specialist teachers.

Just as important are the opportunities for children to apply their learning in ways that are challenging, entertaining and creative, through geography and history trips, visits to galleries and the theatre, and by entering competitions and challenges.
