It's like being part of a family

In a School large enough to give pupils the very best and widest opportunities, our House system is the reason pupils find it so personal and friendly.

New pupils, whenever they arrive, are welcomed and integrated into the life of the School, invited into one of our six Houses, a community they’ll be part of throughout their time here. At BGS the Houses are like six families within the School, there to ensure that every individual is provided with care, support and the opportunity to shine. In their House children get to know a smaller group of students within their own Year as well as students from every other year-group. There are House trips and House parties, and the Houses are the focus for sporting, artistic, competitive and social activities. They create bonds between children of all ages, who join forces and voices in House Singing or compete against each other in House Chess.

They provide opportunities for leadership and responsibility as students progress further up the School, as captain of a House sports team or director of a House play, looking after younger students and becoming valued rĂ´le models.

The continuity provided by the House system and the personal support afforded to each pupil through their Head of House, House Deputies and other House staff are key reasons why Bristol Grammar School is recognised for providing its pupils with ‘outstanding pastoral care’.

Our cast ranged from Upper Sixth to Year 7. Despite the age gap we all really bonded. You feel like one big family. House spirit is such an important thing.
