Academic Life

As a student at Bristol Grammar School you’ll have everything you need to achieve excellent ‘A’ level results and you’ll be encouraged to do your very best.

There’s a big difference between studying for GCSEs and preparing for ‘A’ levels. At BGS you’ll develop the skills you’ll need to become academically confident and independent, an important stepping stone to University or working life.

You’ll be helped and supported every step of the way, not least by the close involvement of your tutor, someone you’ll get to know really well as a mentor and ally.

Classes are stimulating, with a curriculum designed to stretch your ideas, providing a depth and breadth of learning that will allow you to take your studies as far as you want to go. You’ll be involved in plenty of collaborative work as well as independent learning and you’ll be taught in small groups.  A key part of what’s different at BGS is the ‘outstanding range of educational opportunities’1 offered outside the classroom, to broaden your ideas and experience, many organised specifically for the Sixth-formers at our School.

"These two years are shaping my whole career path. You need to choose a place to study were you know success will follow. I came to BGS because I knew it would provide the opportunities, expertise and experiences for me to fulfil my goals and get me where I hope to be in the future"

Amy, Lower-sixth student.
