Sport

Whether your interest is in achieving individual or team excellence or simply fun, fitness and enjoyment, Bristol Grammar School offers its students some of the best sporting facilities in the country.

If you’re at the top of your game, you’ll be supported to go further, with BGS teams and sporting individuals consistently achieving county and national recognition in their field.

Team sport is hugely popular and whatever your standard, if you want to play there’s a place on a team. Most years, as many as a third of our Sixth-formers represent their school in Saturday matches in the Autumn term. The House sporting calander is comprehensive and large numbers of students get involved in the rivalry.

Not everyone is a team player and you might prefer individual events such as orienteering, fencing, swimming and climbing, both for fun or working with our coaches towards competitive success. There’s a well-equipped gym that you can use on site and as well as dance, for our Sixth-formers, there are classes in physical fitness, including boxercise and pilates.

Discover the possibilities and find out more about our extensive sports facilities here.

"Orienteering has taken me over all types of terrains, in all weathers and all over the country, across military training grounds and some of the best forests in the UK."
David Malliphant, U6 student, reserve England Schools Team

"Playing a team sport in your first term is a good idea. You’ll socialise with lots of other people in the Sixth Form as well as the chance to get active and have a bit of fun."
Naomi, Lower-sixth student
