Rugby

Head of Rugby- Ben Scott

The aim of Rugby at BGS is to provide every boy with the opportunity to play competitively at a level which is suitable for them. The players who represent their age-group have great pride in their results and work just as hard in the time leading up to fixtures as they do when they are competing on the pitch.

The sport is very popular with sixteen sides, from U12 to First XV, regularly playing Saturday fixtures. BGS Infants and Juniors’ also play Rugby and produce players who have a firm understanding of the game.

Rugby is played predominantly in the Autumn term, although Sevens and Tens are played until Easter. Infants are introduced to the game as part of their weekly activities at Failand and our Juniors play Rugby as their main Autumn term sport, again at Failand, during their Games afternoon. From U12 to U14, each age-group has one Games afternoon and one after-school practice per week at our outstanding grounds at Failand. The U15s have extra fitness sessions during lunch-time and U16s and above have an indoor skills and fitness session followed by two Games afternoons. Each age-group is coached by a team of Rugby Football Union qualified staff and then individually managed by a specific staff member
