The opportunity to travel and be challenged by competing in an unfamiliar, perhaps unusual, environment, presents new and exciting learning experiences for students in our School.
Girls and boys from Year 8 are given an early introduction to touring and international competition through an annual visit to Dublin, invited as guests of Wesley College. Year 8 and 9 girls take their enthusiasm and high spirits to Malta, enjoying the competition, the surroundings and a really special opportunity to make new friends with older or younger girls.
For many Bristol Grammar School the opportunity to travel and perform with the best in their School at Rugby, hockey and netball is unforgettably rewarding. The Cook Islands, New Zealand and Fiji, Argentina, Barbados and Chile are places most have never been before, sharing in an experience different to anything they have ever done before, with some of the best competition and amongst the best group of friends. For generations of students it’s a never-to-be-forgotten event.
Plans are being finalised for the 2011 BGS sports tour which will see 64 students heading for South Africa. Two Rugby teams and a girls’ hockey and netball team will be heading first to Johannesburg training camp, before moving on to play against local competition. The itinerary includes two nights in a game lodge. Then it’s off to Cape Town for more school visits and sightseeing in and around the city, Cape Point and Robben Island. More information and a fundraising programme is imminent.
"The Sports Tour was probably one of the best things I’ve ever done. We had great fun and we all really bonded. I still include it in my CV as my most influential life experience."
Simon Enever, BA Hons in Industrial Design and Technology, Loughborough University. Owner of Enever Design.
