Important Information about School Closure for Years 7-10

Monday 28th January 2008, 4:22pm
Due to a gas leak from the supply pipe on one corner of our site, the gas supply which serves much of the main school site has been shut down.  Transco have identified the source of the leak and will carry out remedial work, but we anticipate the gas supply will need to remain shut down for at least the whole of tomorrow.

Since our heating is gas-fired, we shall be unable to heat our buildings except for the Lower School, the Elton Road houses and Elton Road building. Our catering arrangements, too, will be limited. We have therefore reluctantly decided that unless there is rapid repair, we cannot continue our usual teaching programme while there is no heating and limited catering in much of the School.

Therefore there will be no school for Years 7-10 on Tuesday 29 January, but we shall continue with all our public examination classes and thus Year 11 and Lower and Upper Sixth should attend as usual, but will be relocated to different teaching rooms.  The Lower School will operate as usual. Lunch will be available for pupils who are in school.  Pupils who are not in school tomorrow have been urged to take home any work they can usefully carry on independently.

We apologise most sincerely for the inconvenience and disruption this will cause, but you will appreciate that the well-being of our students is paramount and in the circumstances, with colder weather forecast, we cannot allow teaching to continue in unheated buildings, nor lunch to be unavailable.

Please continue to check this site and your email for updates on the situation and information on school opening for Wednesday 30 January onwards.
