National essay prize for Year 11 student

Monday 25th February 2008, 11:41am

Douglas Dunn, a pupil in Year 11, has been awarded runner-up prize in the national DCAL (Deafness, Cognitition and Language) competition, It's My Future: Being Deaf in 2018.  He will collect his £50 prize at a ceremony on Tuesday 11 March at the House of Commons in London.

The competition was open to all hard of hearing young people in the UK and asked them to write on the subject of how technological changes might affect them and their lives by 2018.  Douglas's essay discussed not only the impact of smaller and clearer technology but also the possibility of a change in attitude towards those who are hard of hearing and his hope that the achievements of deaf people would not be considered as being special or different from those of hearing people, but be judged and viewed in the same light.

Congratulations to Douglas on being recognised in this important national competition, we hope you enjoy the awards ceremony in London.
