A Level is popular with around 50% of all GCSE students opting to take biology in to the Sixth Form. We follow the OCR specification which provides a logical progression from GCSE but at the same time ensuring a suitably high level academic rigour and expectation. Pupils are encouraged to further develop their independent learning with interactive software, practical sessions and resources available on the department intranet site. Discussion and questioning together with individual presentations help to aid the transition from school to higher education. Applications for university courses include medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, biological sciences, as well as the other broad range of courses available.
We have four well-equipped laboratories and enviable facilities with back-up support of preparation rooms and technicians. We have projectors in all labs which are regularly used to present our ICT resources. We have mobile lap top safes and computers which provide a readily available tool for guided and independent pupil learning.
