Biology is taught as a separate science to all pupils in Years 9, 10 and 11, the course being based on the AQA GCSE syllabus. The aim is to provide a course that is an enjoyable and stimulating educational experience for all students, as well as providing a sound foundation for those who continue the subject beyond GCSE. The teaching and learning emphasis aims to generate interest and challenge understanding, as well as looking at the relevance of biology in the personal, social and environmental context of the pupils' own lives. Pupils are presented with a wide range of learning and revision strategies, and are encouraged to develop the skills of experimental enquiry, data analysis and problem solving.
We have four well-equipped laboratories and enviable facilities with back-up support of preparation rooms and technicians. We have projectors in all labs which are regularly used to present our ICT resources. We have mobile lap top safes and computers which provide a readily available tool for guided and independent pupil learning.
