Preparing your child for life beyond school
The evening will involve David Ruck, Head of Careers, and Kate Jones, Assistant Head, who has seen two children through gap years and off to university, as well as an outline of the BGS 'Next Steps' programme from Emma Cox, Head of Wellbeing.
The keynote presentation will be from Dr Dominique Thompson on what parents can do to support and prepare their children for life away from home, such as building independence and life skills, including when to act if things go wrong. Many of you may recall from the last Parent Partnership Talk that Dr Thompson has worked for over seventeen years as a specialist student health GP and is now a student wellness consultant and national student health expert, as well as being a BGS Governor. Nationally she has experience on the executive of the Student Health Association, and on the Mental Wellbeing in Higher Education working group of Universities UK. She was also the GP representative on the Mental Health in HE project group, developing guidelines for universities and the NHS, published in May 2018.
