Bristol Grammar School Music Department presents its annual Autumn celebration of choral, orchestral and chamber music. This year our massed Senior and Junior choirs will perform Alexander L’Estrange’s ‘Zimbe!’, a joyous 45-minute celebration of African song, featuring live, percussive jazz band accompaniment. The first half will feature BGS Orchestra, BGS Big Phat Band, Key Wind, Chamber Choir and many more.

Since its premier in 1999 ‘Zimbe!’, a modern reimagining of traditional songs from all over the African continent, has become one of the most popular contemporary choral pieces and has been performed over 150 times around the globe, recently receiving its Carnegie Hall debut.

“A profoundly moving work. Alexander has captured the essence of the material and generated impassioned performances” Musician Magazine
