The school’s termly fees, with effect from the Spring term 2025, are shown below. With careful financial planning the governors and school are proud to have passed on to parents and carers only 6% of the 20% VAT imposed on independent school fees by the new Government, from 1 January 2025.
For the 2025-26 academic year, the VAT component will increase no further than an additional 6% for all parents and carers. We will continue to work very hard to keep our fees at a reasonable level within the sector.
The normal annual inflation led rises are reviewed in March each year as is usual practice and fees adjusted for the following September accordingly. This information is shared before the start of the summer term with all parents and carers.
Included in these figures is a separate catering charge of £275 per term, this applies to pupils from Reception to Year 11 and is exempt from VAT.
Infant School Per term (three terms per year)

What's included in the fees?
Lunch for Reception to Year 11 is included in the termly bill.
Lunch for Sixth-formers can be purchased in the JCR, where there will be a comprehensive range of hot meals and sandwich options available. A vegetarian option and a salad meal are always available.
The cost of stationery, learning resource/textbook loan and (from Year 3 upwards) iPad/tablet loan is also included in the fees.
Deposits
An Acceptance Deposit of £300 is payable when you accept the offer of a place (in any year-group) in the Infant School, Junior School, Senior School or Sixth Form. This deposit is refunded, without interest and less any outstanding charges, shortly after a pupil leaves BGS.
Methods of payment
The School charges an annual fee but, for convenience, one third of this is payable by the first day of each term. Payment can be made by direct transfer or termly direct debit. Some parents and guardians prefer to make monthly payments and we offer this facility through the School Fee Plan*. There is a fee payable for this facility. Further information is available from the School Fee Plan website.
Parents can opt to pay the single termly fee payment by Direct Debit to the School with no interest charge. Details are available from the School Finance Office.
Parents can also pay fees under the Advance Fee Payment Scheme, the discount is 1.5% per annum pro rata and is based on the number of terms the fees are paid in advance. If you wish to consider making advance payments, please contact the Finance Office on 0117 933 9880 or at <fees@bgs.bristol.sch.uk> who will be pleased to assist.
Additional charges
Head’s Fund
Infant and Junior School: £2.00
Senior School and Sixth Form £4.00
A termly sum is paid to the Head’s Fund to help subsidise educational trips and visits, and a wide range of other pupil-related activities.
Students’ Personal Accident Insurance Scheme
This is the insurance recommended by the Independent Schools’ Council and BGS – along with many schools throughout the country – has adopted this scheme. The premiums cover accidents during both term-time and the holidays, and benefits are payable in defined circumstances. The premium is £4.60 per term and is a compulsory item. Details of the scheme are included in the information pack sent to parents and guardians of students joining BGS.
Parents’ Association Membership
£1.00 is added to the termly bill as a voluntary contribution to the Parents’ Association. This is a very active organisation, arranging social and fundraising events to help the School. New parents are welcomed as members; full details about the Parents’ Association and how to get involved are circulated at the start of the School year.
Examinations
Public examination charges, plus 12% to cover external independent invigilators, will be added to the bill in the Summer term of the year the pupil takes them.
