Help with school fees

At BGS we do not believe your income should be a barrier to your child’s education and ultimately their success in life.

The school provides help with school fees from age 7+ onwards (Year 3 and above). There is a range of financial assistance available, whether you need support with 10% or 100% of school fees in the Senior School and Sixth Form, and up to 40% of fees in BGS Juniors. There could also be additional support available, including funding for items such as travel, trips, uniform, and equipment.

All pupils, including those awarded a scholarship, are eligible to apply for financial assistance. Each family’s situation is unique, and awards are offered on an individual basis, dependent on your family’s circumstances. Our Finance team are always happy to discuss your situation and offer you guidance on the support that may be available.

How to apply

Applications for fee assistance must be submitted in advance of the entrance assessments. Before completing your bursary application, please submit your entrance application form and pay the registration fee (currently £30). If you feel you will struggle to pay the registration fee, please do speak with us.

To apply for a bursary, simply complete our online Bursary Award application. Set up an account to complete our online form, and to upload your supporting documentation.

Application Deadlines: BGS Juniors (for those attending November assessments) – 13 November 2023; Year 7 – 2 January 2024; Year 12 (Lower Sixth) – 21 November 2023.

Bursary awards are considered on academic merit, based on achievement in the entrance assessments, and also taking into consideration the amount of funding available. We aim to assist as many families as possible, and so the number of awards made each year varies according to the calibre of applicants, and the levels of assistance offered. During the academic year 2021–22, 146 pupils throughout the school received bursaries with support varying between 5% and 100% depending on individual family circumstances.

Bristol Grammar School’s Mission is to provide an exceptional and rounded education to those who might benefit from it, regardless of their background and financial means. It is an objective of Bristol Grammar School’s Governing Board to raise additional funding to increase the level of Bursary award support for future years. The school is committed to broadening access and to providing a first-class education to all.
