Building knowledge and confidence

In Years 4 and 5 your child will be encouraged to get involved and have a go, to be prepared to make mistakes, learn from them and to try again.

We celebrate effort as much as we do achievement, building your child’s confidence to stretch and challenge themselves as the depth and breadth of their learning grows.

Building on the foundations laid in Year 3, your child will continue to have lessons in English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, History, Geography, Religious Studies, French, PE (including swimming) and Games, Music, Dance, Drama, Art, Design Technology, PHSE, and Forest School in Year 4.

Friday afternoon Activities remain a key element of the curriculum, giving your child the chance to continue a new-found hobby or try out something new.

As your child moves into Year 5, teaching by subject specialists increases Swimming and Forest School leave the curriculum (although remain available through clubs and activities). Instead your child will have a fortnightly Food Technology lesson, taught by a Senior School teacher in the Senior School Food and Nutrition kitchen.

Outdoor Education

At BGS every child is involved in outdoor activities, developing a strong sense of adventure in our pupils as they move up through our School.

The next step
Senior School learning

There is no such thing as a 'typical' BGS pupil; your child is unique with their own interests and they will find their own place at BGS.
