Infant & Junior School

If you are interested in your son or daughter joining BGS in September 2024, you can register your interest with the Admissions Office, request a prospectus online, or book a visit to BGS.

Reception places are allocated on the basis of performance during an informal assessment session, which usually take about an hour and a half, supported by a report from your child’s current early learning setting (if applicable). For September 2024 entry, these are held in January 2024.

Offers of places in BGS Juniors are made on the basis of performance in entrance assessments, supported by a report from your child’s current school.

For Year 3 entry, children are invited to spend a morning with us, where they will enjoy a series of tasks and activities, including verbal reasoning, mathematics and literacy. Full details of the assessment process will be sent to you once you've applied.

For Year 5 entry the assessment consists of creative writing, verbal reasoning and problem-solving tests. These will be explained to your child, with examples given and opportunities to ask for help, before they will be expected to work alone.

For entry to BGS Juniors in September 2024, assessments will be held in November 2023, with a second session in January 2024 subject to availability of spaces.

Year 5 entrance assessments (plus assessments for a very limited number of Year 4 places) will be held on Monday 13 November – please apply by Friday 10 November if you would like your child to attend this session.

Year 3 entrance assessments will be held on Thursday 16 November 2023 – please apply by Friday 10 November if you would like your child to attend this session.
