There are a variety of awards available, and these are open to both pupils who are applying to join the School at Year 7 and those currently in BGS Juniors.
Subject to the availability of places in the year-group, the awards below are also available to pupils entering Year 9.
Our scholarships do not carry an automatic fee reduction, so any pupils who require financial assistance with school fees are invited to apply for a means-tested Bursary award when submitting their Scholarship application.
Pupils awarded any of the following scholarships will receive an annual grant for their artistic, sporting or academic development. Additionally, they will join our Scholars Programme, which, led by our Heads of Scholars, provides our most able students with a range of opportunities designed to stretch and challenge them.
Academic Scholarships
Academic Scholarships are available for entry into Year 7. These scholarships are awarded based on academic merit. All pupils registered for the school will be considered for an academic scholarship, awarded based on exceptional entrance examination results and potential shown in a scholarship interview, usually with the Head of BGS and a Head of Scholars.
Creative and Performing Arts and Sport Scholarships
In addition to Academic Scholarships, we offer Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships (Art, Dance, Drama and Music) and Sport Scholarships in Year 7 to entrants showing exceptional ability in these areas.
Applicants for these scholarships are required to complete a separate application form and shortlisted candidates will be invited to assessment days.
If you would like to apply for a Creative and Performing Arts or Sport Scholarship, please indicate this when you complete the Senior School application form, and the Admissions team will forward the relevant form(s) for you to complete.
The deadline to apply for a Creative and Performing Arts or Sport Scholarships for entry in September 2025 is midday on Friday 22 November 2024.
Head's Scholarships
Candidates who are shortlisted for an Academic Scholarship as well as a Creative and Performing Arts and/or Sport Scholarship will be considered for the Head's Scholarship, recognising their potential to contribute across several areas of school life.
At Bristol Grammar School the Arts are embraced as a vital part of your child’s education.
We aim to make exercise fun and enjoyable, hopefully forming a lifelong habit for your child.
At whatever stage of their education they join us, your child will be welcomed into the BGS family.
