Batting Into the New Season

Last weekend, our U14A Captain, Bea, scored the school’s first 50 of the 2026 cricket season in a fantastic innings for the team. Her achievement marked an exciting milestone early in the season and has the team enthusiastically looking towards their next matches. We spoke to Bea, who reflected on the game, the team, and the season ahead.

What was going through your mind as you got closer to 50?

At first, I was just trying to build my innings, but when I got into the 40s, I started thinking about the 50. I tried to stay calm and focus on each ball rather than the score.

Which moment in the innings did you think was the turning point?

Probably when I hit a couple of boundaries in one over – it gave me confidence and took a bit of pressure off. After that I felt more settled and got into the swing of things.

How did your teammates support you?

They were really encouraging from the sidelines and between my wickets. My batting partner kept reminding me to stay relaxed and to keep changing my strike areas to pick the gaps in the field.

What's something you have worked on in training that has paid off?

I have been working on my shot selection and not rushing things, especially early on. That helped me build my innings today.

What are your personal goals for the rest of the season?

I am aiming for 100 and get a fifer in my bowling. Also, just stay consistent and score runs each match.

Well done Bea! We have no doubt that there will be lots more exciting BGS Cricket moments ahead this Summer.
