Year 10 BGS pupil Miranda has joined the young advisory board of TeenTech, an organisation that aims to help young people understand the opportunities in the science, technology, and engineering industries.
As a board member, Miranda will be able to help direct the topics and initiatives TeenTech pursues as it promotes STEM to young people across the UK. Commenting on her role, Miranda said:
“Being on the board of TeenTech is absolutely my thing; I love science and maths and really enjoyed my experience taking part in the TeenTech competition. This gives me the opportunity to share that with others and encourage them to get involved.
“I want to help get better representation for all backgrounds in STEM, so it’s important to share opportunities and experiences to let everyone see that these careers are there if they want them.”
Miranda received an email from TeenTech’s founder, Maggie Philbin, inviting her to join the board after she applied to be an ambassador for the organisation. Ambassadors represent TeenTech, speaking at public events, visiting schools and promoting opportunities to their peers. They engage and inform them about STEM careers, a role Miranda will now take on alongside her place on the advisory board.
The board meets virtually every two months and Miranda has already attended her two meetings. She is the youngest of the eight board members, with the others ranging from Year 11 up to university students. With her first meetings out of the way, Miranda is keen to get involved and start spreading the word about the STEM opportunities available.
Well done Miranda on this prestigious appointment; we look forward to hearing more about your work with TeenTech.
