A message from our new Headmaster

We are delighted to welcome Jaideep Barot as Headmaster of Bristol Grammar School. Please see below the letter he sent to BGS parents at the start of the academic year:

Dear BGS Parents,

I hope that you and your families have had a lovely summer, and that you are looking forward to the start of the new academic year. I write to you with both pride and humility as I take up the reins as Headmaster of Bristol Grammar School.

Over the fourteen months since being appointed, I have been able to get to know the school a little better, thanks to the warm welcome extended by my predecessor, Mr MacKinnon, and his generous handover. Though there remains much to learn, I am looking forward to the start of term and, in particular, the chance finally to meet your sons and daughters, whether they are returning to the school, or – like me, perhaps somewhat intrepidly – joining BGS for the first time. I am also very much looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the coming weeks and months, and working together with you, your children and the staff of this great school, to ensure that BGS continues to provide the first-rate, all-round education and care for which it stands.

It is an added bonus that I am able to write on the back of some outstanding public examination results – not just for those pupils with strings of top grades who are naturally fêted for their achievements, but also for the many individual – if less visible – success stories of those pupils who put in every ounce of their effort to achieve the very best grades possible. As I mentioned on the school website, what makes it all the more impressive is that these academic results are just one part of what these boys and girls have achieved at BGS, with great individual and collective success beyond the classroom, too, whether in sport, on stage, or in other activities. It is all testament to the talent, attitude and endeavour of our young men and women, and – of course – of our magnificent staff.

I should like to sign off by thanking Mr MacKinnon on the school’s behalf for his decade of caring and dedicated leadership, and by saying, again, how much I am looking forward to meeting you over the course of this school year.

Jaideep Barot
