On Remembrance Day, it is usual for the Senior School pupils and staff, plus representatives from BGS Juniors and OBs and other members of the BGS community, to gather in the Great Hall for Bristol Grammar School’s annual Remembrance Service.
Obviously, this year it was not possible for us all to be together to remember those who gave their lives for our freedoms and our futures. However, the BGS community was able to share in an act of Remembrance through a video assembly, watched by both pupils and the OB community.
As well as highlighting some of the many OBs who lost their lives in the First World War, the video also features former BGS pupil Cpt. Simon Lowes (OB 1997–2004). Simon spoke on what Remembrance Day means to him as someone who served in much more recent conflicts. We are very grateful to Simon for taking the time to share his thoughts with us so eloquently and so movingly.
If you would like to watch it, the assembly can be viewed here, or on our YouTube channel.
