Greenpower International Final

The season’s final in the Greenpower electric car racing series saw BGS once again compete in two categories.

Our Kit car, Megazord, was competing against the world’s top 70 cars. The team overcame problems caused by a rogue programme that controls the power delivery, and performed consistently for the 90 minutes. They ultimately finished a matter of metres behind the two modified kit cars, giving us third place.

We re-programmed the car overnight and in the first Saturday race took a convincing victory against those who had finished ahead of us the previous day. Terazord also battled well in the worst conditions we have experienced this year and finished in third place in the F24 category for race 1. The second race on Saturday proved that our success earlier in the day was no coincidence, with both cars replicating their positions.

Overall we came away with four trophies – one for the two Wins as a kit car and three for our third places, making BGS the most successful team in the Greenpower series again this year. This impressive result will entitle Megazord (the oldest kit car in existence with chassis no. 002 out of 608) to carry a single figure race number in 2019; this is a first for any Kit car racing against F24 scratch built cars.

Congratulations to to all the pupils involved in the Greenpower team on these fantastic results, and our thanks to Mr Thomas and the staff team who support them.
