The National Semi-Finals of the English Primary Schools’ Chess Championships were hosted by BGS in the Great Hall on Saturday 11 May. There were eighty schools who took part with over 440 children using 220 chess boards. BGS had two U11 teams and an U9 team taking part with pupils from Year 3–6 taking part. The U9 team and the U11B team both came away with bronze medals and a bronze trophy and the U11A team secured a silver trophy and silver medals for the second consecutive year – an incredible achievement to finish in the top half against some tough competition and a long day, with convincing wins against Radlett Prep and Frith Manor schools.
The BGS children taking part were also fantastic ambassadors and served as great tour guides for the other pupils, teachers and parents who visited our site throughout the day. Well done and thank you to all the children. Also a big thank you to the parents for all the support throughout the day - it was very much appreciated.
