BGS hosts Bristol Megafinal of the UK Chess Challenge

BGS hosted the Bristol Megafinal of the UK Chess Challenge in the Great Hall on Saturday, involving over 180 participants in total from across the region. Forty of these came from BGS, split approximately evenly between Senior and Junior Schools.

The BGS players enjoyed considerable success, with just over half of them qualifying for the Gigafinal, the next stage of this national tournament.

In the Senior School, our top achievers included:

  • Kandara (Y10), who was the highest finishing girl and came second in the Under 18 section, only losing one game against the eventual winner.
  • Rufus (Y9) and Advay (Y8) finished second and third respectively in the Under 14 section.
  • Other Giga qualifiers included Anya (L6), Jonathan (Y10), Barnaby, Avi, Paddy, Tom, Leo (Y9) and Sonny (Y8), Ben, Rayyan, Sam, Jonah, Adyth and Alec (Y7)

In the Junior School, our top achievers were:

  • Anay (Y5) who won the Under 10 section with a fantastic score of 6/6
  • Leo (Y5) who came third in the Under 10 section.
  • Alice (Y6) who qualified for the Gigafinal in the Under 12 section and James (Y4) who qualified for the Gigafinal from the Under 9 section.

Well done to them all, and best of luck in the Gigafinal.
