Bold Voices

Last week we welcomed Anna and Issy from gender inequality educators Bold Voices to work with our Sixth Form and Year 11 pupils. Both year-groups attended a thought-provoking and impactful talk. For the Sixth Form this was followed by optional training sessions, for which over twenty students volunteered. The sessions looked at how to encourage conversation and reflection on the role stereotypes, attitudes, and structures in our society play in enabling gendered inequality and violence. It was impressive to see the mature and thoughtful way in which our pupils thought and spoke about these hard-hitting and serious topics. The next day, their training was put into practice as our Sixth Form volunteers helped deliver facilitated workshops to our Year 11 pupils, following Year 11’s talk from Bold Voices.

Pupil feedback was incredibly positive, and they definitely appreciated Bold Voices approach to these difficult and challenging issues. Comments included:

“Thank you for the talk today, I thought it was so beneficial and well presented. I really liked how it wasn’t pointing the finger but just acknowledged and discovered the roots of sexual violence, particularly in our age-group.”

“I really appreciate the school getting people to talk about issues like this to show how important they are. I spoke to loads of people who felt the same about how good it was.”
