On Wednesday international poll-winning jazz saxophonist Greg Abate dropped into BGS to host an improvisation workshop and concert with students from both BGS and local schools (QEH, Marlwood, Redmaid's, BCCS, Winterbourne, AYM and Cotham).
Students performed alongside Greg, working on tone, rhythmic timing, technique and scale theory, before the Greg Abate Quartet performed a thrilling set of up-tempo bebop and swing jazz to an appreciative audience in The Mackay. Greg, who was recently inducted into the US Music Hall of Fame, will be touring nationally for the next three weeks.
BGS student Luke said "Greg's workshop really opened my eyes to what real jazz is, and how amazing it is when played well! I've learnt so many new techniques and concepts that will really help my music."
Our thanks to Greg and The Greg Abate Quartet for sharing their time and expertise.
