RGS Young Geographer of the Year success

We are delighted to announce that BGS pupil Miranda (Y8) has been Highly Commended in the Royal Geographical Society’s Young Geographer of the Year competition. This is an outstanding achievement in a national competition. Miranda produced a fantastic piece of work on ‘The world outside my window’ created during the first lockdown period.

Miranda said “I decided to focus on Blaise Castle estate, because it’s close to my home and there are many acres of woodland as well as other really interesting features such as the rock structures, folly and museum. I would often go there to research and admire nature. I studied the rock formations and also the human geography of the area, for example how the park is used and the estate’s foundations.

“It took time to identify the rocks so I did a lot of walking and bike rides which must have improved my lockdown fitness! Many of the rocks can be seen on the walking paths – the farther you walk, the older they are. I’m really grateful for the fact that Blaise is so near – I wish that more people could enjoy the natural environment.”

Well done Miranda on this fantastic and well-deserved achievement.
