BGS Music's Autumn Concert

On Tuesday 14 November the students and staff of Bristol Grammar School took to the stage at St George’s, Brandon hill for their annual Autumn Concert.

Over 130 performers from the Junior and Senior School – both choral and orchestral – squeezed on to the stage in the to perform Karl Jenkins’ hugely popular Mass for Peace, The Armed Man watched by a near capacity audience. Highlights included solos from a number of choir members including Sixth-former Lauren’s haunting mezzo-soprano evocation of a soldier returning from the trenches, as well as a beautiful viola solo from Year 8 student Zoe in the Benedictus.

Other ensembles featured in the first half included the Big Phat Band playing Charles Mingus, BGS Orchestra (performing Holst’s Mars and music from How to Train Your Dragon), saxophone and mixed wind ensembles and boys and girls a capella groups. The Year 7 choir also returned by popular demand following the recent House Singing competition to perform their Queen Medley complete with dance moves and actions! All in all, a moving and entertaining evening.
