Secretary General of the HMC visits BGS

Last Thursday, Mr Barot was delighted to welcome Dr Simon Hyde, General Secretary of the Heads’ Conference (HMC) to visit Bristol Grammar School.

HMC was established in 1869 and today has a membership that includes 300 Heads in the UK and Ireland, along with an additional 60 international members. Dr Simon Hyde, as the General Secretary, leads the HMC team; Jaideep Barot, Head of BGS, is Chair Elect of the organisation and will serve as Chair of the HMC for the 2024–25 academic year. HMC plays a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of education; as well as advocating for better education policy and good practice, HMC provides training, induction and professional development for Heads and staff of HMC schools and provides a quality ‘kite mark’ for independent education.

As well as spending time with Mr Barot during his visit, Dr Hyde also toured BGS in the company of our ‘top three’ – Head of School Adiyat and Deputies Liz and Liv. Dr Hyde greatly enjoyed seeing BGS through their eyes and found their energy and positivity contagious.

Dr Hyde also paid a visit to our neighbours at Cotham School, meeting with Cotham School Head Jo Butler to learn more about the Bristol Education Partnership and its value to schools, both state and independent, across Bristol.

Our thanks to Dr Hyde for taking the time to visit BGS while he was in Bristol.
