BGS students enjoyed outstanding success at the Model United Nations event at Cheadle Hulme School, Manchester in October. This is a large, established conference on the MUN circuit, welcoming schools including Manchester Grammar School, Shrewsbury School and Withington School, as well as those closer to BGS including KES, Bath. Out of some 60 delegations and 400 students, BGS achieved first and second place, with delegates representing Argentina chosen as Outstanding Delegation and those representing Kazakhstan were selected as Highly Commended Delegation.
This was all the more extraordinary since the Argentina team had only four students, and were outnumbered by larger teams of seven students. So, many congratulations to the L6 team of Jack, Charlotte, Ollie and Elliot and of course to our U6 Kazakhstan delegates: Benedict, Nick, Jacob, Jamie, Richard, Jake and Varun. Between them, our teams won thirteen individual and team awards!
Dr Massey, MUN Adviser commented: ‘BGS students showed that they can research, lobby and speak in public to a very high standard, and their talents were recognised by their peers, since all awards are given by fellow-students. Congratulations to all our students for engaging so well with major current world issues.’
