Congratulations to our chess team, which finished first out of 14 teams in the top section of the Bristol Regional Qualifier Event for the National Schools’ Chess Championships, which we hosted in the Great Hall on Monday evening.
The event involved a total of 24 teams from 16 different schools and was the largest such regional qualifying event in this national competition. Here is the link to the full results: https://chess-results.com/tnr698206.aspx?lan=1.
A fifth place finish for the BGS B team means both have qualified for the regional stages of the National Schools’ Championships. This is the second consecutive year in which BGS has got two teams through to this stage of this prestigious national competition.
Our teams included a range of players from Year 7 through to Upper Sixth. Our top two boards, Chirag in Upper Sixth and Kandara in Year 10, both won all their games.
We wish both teams well in the next round, which will take place in January.
