The first of this year’s BGS Partnership Talks was held as both a partnership talk and a book launch for a new publication, How to Grow a Grown Up, written by Dr Dominique Thompson and Fabienne Vailes.
The event followed on from the excellent talks Dr Thompson gave last year on mental health and preparing your child for life beyond school. With over seventeen years experience as a specialist student health GP, Dr Thompson is well qualified to offer insights into the challenges facing young people today.
After an engaging talk in which Dr Thompson shared some of the key points from the new book, including practical tips as to how to support your child, she was joined by co-author Fabienne Vailes for a Q&A sesssion. Mrs Vailes is a UK expert on emotional and mental wellbeing within the education sector. With extensive experience of teaching across all age-groups (from nursery to primary, secondary, FE and HE as well as adult learners) she has an unusually wide appreciation of the issues facing learners at all levels.
The talk was followed by a book signing, with plenty of opportunity for attendees to chat with the authors and ask any further questions. Our sincere thanks go to Dominique and Fabienne for such an enlightening and informative evening.
We hope that all of you who came along found the evening useful as well as enjoyable. Don't forget the dates of future BGS Partnership talks are on the What's On section of our website, with details of how to book being shared via the Weekly Email as event dates approach.
