BGS was pleased to host a large regional qualifying chess tournament in the National Schools’ Chess Championships in the Great Hall on Monday 25 November.
The tournament involved over 170 pupils in total, with 28 teams of six players from 18 schools from both independent and state sectors from across the region taking part.
We were delighted with the results of the BGS contingent, as this is the first year in which we have secured qualification to the regional rounds of the competition for three of our teams – testament to the strength in depth of chess at Bristol Grammar School.
As chess continues to grow in popularity throughout BGS, our players and staff are looking forward to welcoming many schools back to our chess events next term.
