On Sunday 17 September our chess team took part in the Eton Chess Tournament. The team were very succesful; they came equal first in the Plate Competition and secured automatic qualification for the Regional Stages of the National Schools’ Chess Championships with our high-place finish in the event.
After a loss in the first round, they recovered strongly, defeating Sevenoaks School 5-1 in the final round.
Our top board, Year 8 student Chirag, has achieved fantastic results of late. He came equal top of his section in a prestigious Under-16 national tournament, the UK Chess Challenge, after coming through the Bristol Megafinal hosted at BGS in May. We look forward to hosting this event again next year on Saturday 5 May 2018 amongst several tournaments that are due to be hosted in our Great Hall.
