BGS Scholars tackle the Low Ropes course

Failand’s tricky Low Ropes Course was the venue for the latest challenge for Year 7 Scholars at BGS. The emphasis was very much on teamwork as the Scholars were set the task of navigating the course without dropping a ball, quickly named Jerry! Transporting Jerry among the ropes, trees and obstacles made big demands of the Scholars’ ability to make a plan for each stage of the course, to communicate effectively with each other and to consider fresh options when ‘Plan A’ did not quite succeed.

Director of Outdoor Education Mrs Kelly Murphy was impressed by the group’s resilience as well as their problem-solving ability. She led a debrief at the end of the challenge in which the Scholars were asked to reflect on how they might carry forward their experiences in the future.

Dr Massey, Director of Scholars, said "Teamwork is vital in today’s schools and of course the wider world. It was good to see Academic, Creative Arts and Sports Scholars working together to overcome each obstacle."

And Jerry? He survived…
