Lambs rugby tour kicks off

Following the spectacular news that Upper Sixth students Seb and Jake were selected for the U18 Lambs RFC national squad, they are now looking ahead to the 2025 Lambs tour in July.

Known for their dynamic playing style, the Lambs RFC enables players to take a fresh approach to their game. Seb is keen to apply all that he has learnt at BGS to his new role as tour squad captain:

“During my time at BGS, I have been taught by amazing teachers. Seeing how they lead lessons and how they conduct themselves and their class has influenced how I lead when captaining the rugby team. On the field my skills have been advanced and honed thanks to BGS’s fantastic sporting facilities and knowledgeable coaches. This combination has enabled me to compete at a high level, allowing me to go on this prestigious tour.”

When asked what advice they would give to younger players at BGS, Jake encouraged any rugby enthusiasts to take advantage of all the opportunities offered to them and to stay consistent, even when they are unsure. Starting off in the C team in Year 7, Jake started attending every extra session, playing in teams and took every chance available to develop his skills ultimately becoming first BGS XV captain.

Both Seb and Jake agree that teamwork is what really makes the game. Jake knows that this will be important whilst out on tour: “A key lesson that I have learned is team first - both on and off the field - playing hard for the team till the 80th minute or ensuring no one is alone at breakfast. As it helps us all feel closer as a team”.

Alongside his teammates, Seb is most looking forward to competing against the challenging team from Western Province Academy. Off the field, they can’t wait for their stay at the tranquil Kwa Maritane game lodge and the chance to scale Table Mountain.

We wish them the best of luck with their upcoming tour and can’t wait to see what lies ahead for them both.
