On 22 January a group of BGS fencers competed at the South West Age-Group Championships. Well done to all our fencers, and special congratulations to Ruben (Year 7), who fought off a tough group to come third in the U12 category.
As a result of this success, Ruben has qualified to represent the South West at the British Youth Championships in Sheffield in May. We wish Ruben every success at the Championships.
On the same day, Anja and Eleanor (both Year 10) represented BGS in in the Year 10–13 category of the British Schools’ Regional Judo Championships. Both girls were the youngest and lightest in their categories. Eleanor won silver and Anja placed a very credible fifth place in a very tough category.
The folowing week, on 28 January, Eleanor and Anja travelled to High Wycombe to compete in the Independent Schools’ National Championships where both girls won all their fights with maximum points securing gold medals. This meant that Eleanor successfully defended her national title for the third consecutive year while Anja was winning at the championships for the first time.
Both Anja and Eleanor have worked extremely hard to prepare for the tournaments and represented BGS in an exemplary manner. We congratulate the girls on their success.
