BGS students once again enjoyed outstanding success at Kingswood School’s annual Model United Nations event. This is a prestigious conference hosting some fifty schools from across the UK and from Germany, comprising some 500 delegates in all. These were our best-ever results.
BGS was defending our 2016 title as Best Delegation. A strong Russia delegation led by Secretary-General Sasha produced another dominant display, with a Best Delegate prize in the Middle East Committee for Benedict (on his birthday) and the two Human Rights Committees (Jack and Jake). Overall, Russia was declared Best Delegation, to produce a second successive victory. Close behind them were several countries jointly awarded Highly Commended status including our six delegates representing Israel.
Finally, among a number of countries acknowledged as meriting Commended status was our youngest-ever delegation representing The Netherlands. With one Year 10, two Year 9s and two Year 8s this delegation attracted widespread praise from teachers and fellow-delegates. Lucas (Year 8) was awarded a Commended Delegate prize, which is fabulous for a student attending his first ever external event. Tejas (Year 8) and Dheeran (Year 9) were both declared as Best Junior Delegate in their respective committees.
Overall, out of a total of 18 BGS students, 14 won awards and we congratulate them all on this outstanding result.
